PROGRAM OFFERINGS IN PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE
Assessment of Board Functions
The first step in the assessment process includes the development of an assessment instrument which enables the Board and its members to provide input regarding current board operating procedures. To accomplish this, consultants will meet with each board member individually and the Board to identify issues of concern, review district documents and observe at least one board meeting.
After administering the assessment instrument, the consultant team will analyze and interpret the data. Results will include governance matters and recommendations, civility review and recommendations, and leadership team climate and working atmosphere.
After results and recommendations are presented to the leadership team, consultants and teams will identify board operation needs. Based on these needs, they will then determine governance civility and climate goals.
Civility
We develop the role of civility in productive deliberation and successful decision-making. Also, work to assist in the development of a civility process and BOE-rule-making.

Team Building
LEC works with Boards and administrative staff in a unified effort to identify and reach district goals. A by-product of this work is the satisfaction experienced by district leaders as they work together to transform the school district into one which truly meets the educational, social and emotional needs of the students.
To accomplish this, we use a variety of techniques such as role-plating, brain-storming, individual and group discussions, mindfulness, recognizing your own and others’ personalities and how they affect group process, and building emotional intelligence.
Balancing Priorities
Develops the practice of the BOE establishing Board priorities and the President of the Board assigning BOE members as reporting liaisons to the Board on each priority. The Superintendent and leadership team then work with Board members to establish a reporting mechanism first to the Superintendent and secondly to the Board. It is emphasized that this is not assigning responsibility for performance to the BOE member, but rather establishes joint reporting duties that works to keep the Board “in balance” as to the time the Board is spending on any one priority.
Governance Program
We hold discussion with BOE on functionality of the BOE including the study of possible governance modifications and then to establish a process of BOE self-assessment of changes made at regular intervals.
SUPPORT SERVICES
Superintendent Evaluation
We discuss the effectiveness of the present system, assessing needs for modifications. We explore with the BOE possible alternatives and the need for third-party facilitation to encourage dialogue which frees the Board of note-taking responsibilities, allowing all five members to participate in a dialogue-driven process.
Superintendent Search
LEC consultants have extensive experience in administrative searches and are poised to provide search services to school districts. These searches include interviewing board members, staff, and community members to identify the characteristics needed to lead the district in the case of superintendent and treasurer searches. We will make sure the position is posted in a variety of places, including online, and we will gather and review applications for required characteristics. We will provide recommendations for interviews and will assist in the process. Throughout this transparent process, board members will have access to all information gathered.
